This eBook is an overview of pulsed electromagnetic therapy.
Pulsed electromagnetic therapy involves the use of electromagnetic energy to diagnose and treat various illnesses. Pulsed magnetic field therapy is frequently used to treat the symptoms of various conditions like osteoarthritis, although its efficacy has not been proven. In contrast to the conventional treatments in which drugs are used to treat diseases, pulsed electromagnetic therapy use electromagnetic energy to treat diseases.
Magnetic therapy and electromagnetic therapy are two different things. The magnetic therapy consists of applying magnets in a variety of configurations like pads, bandages, and even magnetic mattresses. They use static magnetic field. Scientific studies do not support claims of efficacy. In pulsed or pulsating electromagnetic therapy, a changing magnetic field generates an electrical voltage. The biological effects of pulsating electromagnetic fields are hypothesized to be due to electrical rather than magnetic forces.
The cells in the body have a basic or a resting membrane potential that is necessary for normal cellular metabolism. In diseased state the resting membrane potential is altered. Pulsed electromagnetic therapy restores normalcy in these conditions and help to either cure those diseases or accelerate the recovery process. Some of the diseases that are treated with PEMF therapy are erectile dysfunction, migraine, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, arthritis, bone fracture, ligament tear, chronic pain, mental illness, cancer, wound healing, nerve regeneration and Parkinson’s disease.
Many studies are done PEMF to find the effectiveness of it in treating various diseases. But large scale studies are to be done before it could be accepted.
